A to Z Challenge, Day 21:  U 


 U is for umbrellas that go up when the rain falls down


(Though, frankly, it's preferable to splash around town.)



Today's Ten Things of Thankful will not be limited to this past week, but rather to the past 28 years.  I'm thankful for:

 1 wedding day, 28 years ago today.

 2 adoptions.

 3 unique birth experiences.

 4 foreign countries that we have explored together.

 5 children who have brought us joy.

 6 towns we have called home.

 7 years=the longest we've stayed in any one house

 8 months between meeting for the first time and marriage

 9 different types of pets we have had in our menagerie (dogs, cats, lizards, birds--including chickens, guinea pigs, rats, rabbits, fish, hamsters)

 10--how we rate our marriage on a scale of 1-10 (Only because rating something higher than the scale allows is as ridiculous as giving "110%")

 Happy anniversary, John!  I love you and look forward to the next 28 years!

      I was so glad I thought to capture that moment. I used actual film, so I didn't know how the photos turned out until I got the roll developed.

    Undoubtebly Unique Union U have.... Love those splash-pictures!! Happy Anniversary! Love your wedding picture. John hasn't changed a bit. You love so sweet and innocent, but still can't believe you're the mom of adult kids already. A toast to at least 28 years more in the same happy spirit and Unconditional Love xxx

      Thanks, Bianca! We had a great anniversary; we actually took a vacation for the week. I didn't take the computer, and I kept the phone turned off. Sometimes it's good to unplug for a bit.

    What a really pretty wedding dress! Also, the photo of umbrellas looks like it was taken in Asia; I just got back from my trip there and experienced a few rainy days--EVERYONE has umbrellas. I'd never seen so many.

    Jumping in puddles is so much fun, as long as the rain is a warm rain. Cold rain...not so much.

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. (The apricot only bears heavily every other year anyway, and I think this is an "off" year--though I could be wrong.) Strawberry plants in full bloom 3. Monday Mentions: Equate Crutches

Have you ever needed crutches? I hadn't, until a week ago.  I'm pretty sure I strained a muscle while running a half-marathon.  (That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? I'm not actually that cool; the last time I strained a muscle it was from carrying too many shopping bags at once.) In any case, I found myself in need of some crutches. I sent my husband to the store to get some. Photo: A pair of crutches leans against a wall  Not that crutches are all that complex, but because I hadn't used any before, I wondered if I could figure out how to adjust them to fit me properly. I shouldn't have worried. John came home from Walmart with their generic store brand of crutches, complete with instructions. First, I needed to take out a long bolt that went through the hand grip. Then I needed to find my height range, push down two metal pieces, and slide the crutches until the little metal pieces came up in the hole near my height range. (Having two people for this...
