A to Z of Thankful Me: U and Ten Things of Thankful, Too

A to Z Challenge, Day 21:  U

U is for umbrellas that go up when the rain falls down

(Though, frankly, it's preferable to splash around town.)

Today's Ten Things of Thankful will not be limited to this past week, but rather to the past 28 years.  I'm thankful for:

1 wedding day, 28 years ago today.

2 adoptions.

3 unique birth experiences.

4 foreign countries that we have explored together.

5 children who have brought us joy.

6 towns we have called home.

7 years=the longest we've stayed in any one house

8 months between meeting for the first time and marriage

9 different types of pets we have had in our menagerie (dogs, cats, lizards, birds--including chickens, guinea pigs, rats, rabbits, fish, hamsters)

10--how we rate our marriage on a scale of 1-10 (Only because rating something higher than the scale allows is as ridiculous as giving "110%")

Happy anniversary, John!  I love you and look forward to the next 28 years!

  1. The puddle-jumping photos are priceless!

    1. I was so glad I thought to capture that moment. I used actual film, so I didn't know how the photos turned out until I got the roll developed.

  2. Undoubtebly Unique Union U have.... Love those splash-pictures!! Happy Anniversary! Love your wedding picture. John hasn't changed a bit. You love so sweet and innocent, but still can't believe you're the mom of adult kids already. A toast to at least 28 years more in the same happy spirit and Unconditional Love xxx

    1. Thanks, Bianca! We had a great anniversary; we actually took a vacation for the week. I didn't take the computer, and I kept the phone turned off. Sometimes it's good to unplug for a bit.

  3. What a really pretty wedding dress! Also, the photo of umbrellas looks like it was taken in Asia; I just got back from my trip there and experienced a few rainy days--EVERYONE has umbrellas. I'd never seen so many.

    1. Good spotting! The photo was taken in Japan about 4 years ago.

  4. happy anniversary - beautiful thankfuls !

    1. Thanks! I hadn't watched the Flintstones for years. :-)

  6. Happy anniversary. And there's nothing like splashing around in a mud puddle.

  7. Wishing you a very happy anniversary, and many, many more happy years together, Kristi! You definitely have a life to be proud of!

  8. Happy Anniversary! You both look so young and so beautiful in that picture but my favorite picture is certainly the mud puddle! Just love it!

    1. I love the puddle pictures, too! I'm so glad I thought to use precious film to capture the moment! :-)

  9. Happy Anniversary! excellent numbering scheme!

  10. Happy anniversary!!!!!

Jumping in puddles is so much fun, as long as the rain is a warm rain. Cold rain...not so much.

    1. Thank you.

I think temperatures are relative, but I agree with you. :-)

  11. Look at you two! Happy Anniversary!

  12. Oh what a sweet post all around! Happy anniversary to you and John!

  13. Very Happy Belated Anniversary to you and John. Beautiful picture of the 2 of you:)
    A very excellent post!!

  14. I could have sworn I commented on this. Anyway, LOVE the pictures. LOVE them! You were such babies when you got married! Happy anniversary!

    1. It looks like we were teenagers, but I promise we weren't.

You might have commented already. Blogger has been eating my replies sometimes lately, too.

Ten Things of Thankful: Post-Thanksgiving Edition

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. I'll jump right in:

1. I'm thankful for cooperative return policies. Several weeks ago, I mentioned that I had to return a range that I had purchased, and I hoped that the particular range was just a lemon and that the replacement wouldn't have the same problem. Well, unfortunately, it did. On the bright side, the store quickly picked up the second range and refunded my money. I'm putting appliance purchases on the back burner (!) for the moment.

2. I'm thankful for temples. I went one morning this week to the temple. I'm always amazed at how much insight comes in just an hour or two of reflection.

3. I'm thankful for my sister. She and her family came to Utah to spend Thanksgiving with her in-laws, and I got a chance to see her and her family on Wednesday. The last time I saw her was in January at our grandma's 100th birthday celebration. We feel lucky to have two visits in one year!

4. I'm thankful for my brother. …

Never Give Up Hope

Twenty-three years ago, a beautiful little girl was born. From the get-go, she was sweet, sensitive, and rather shy. She has grown into a young woman of whom I am so proud. She has worked hard to overcome challenges, and recently told me she is trying to face her fears, and asked me if I would write her story and share it here on the blog, in hopes she can inspire others through their own struggles. Although I offered to publish an auto-biographical piece for her, she wanted me to write her story from my perspective. At her request, and with her approval of this post, I share the following:
The phone rang, and the social worker on the other end informed me that a baby girl had been born 10 weeks early and drug-exposed. She wasn't ready to be released from the medical facility where she was currently staying, but would we be interested in being her foster-to-adopt parents? Of course! When John and I filled out our paperwork, we indicated that we were comfortable with a premature bab…
