A to Z of Thankful Me: U and Ten Things of Thankful, Too

A to Z Challenge, Day 21:  U

U is for umbrellas that go up when the rain falls down

(Though, frankly, it's preferable to splash around town.)

Today's Ten Things of Thankful will not be limited to this past week, but rather to the past 28 years.  I'm thankful for:

1 wedding day, 28 years ago today.

2 adoptions.

3 unique birth experiences.

4 foreign countries that we have explored together.

5 children who have brought us joy.

6 towns we have called home.

7 years=the longest we've stayed in any one house

8 months between meeting for the first time and marriage

9 different types of pets we have had in our menagerie (dogs, cats, lizards, birds--including chickens, guinea pigs, rats, rabbits, fish, hamsters)

10--how we rate our marriage on a scale of 1-10 (Only because rating something higher than the scale allows is as ridiculous as giving "110%")

Happy anniversary, John!  I love you and look forward to the next 28 years!

    1. I was so glad I thought to capture that moment. I used actual film, so I didn't know how the photos turned out until I got the roll developed.

  2. Undoubtebly Unique Union U have.... Love those splash-pictures!! Happy Anniversary! Love your wedding picture. John hasn't changed a bit. You love so sweet and innocent, but still can't believe you're the mom of adult kids already. A toast to at least 28 years more in the same happy spirit and Unconditional Love xxx

    1. Thanks, Bianca! We had a great anniversary; we actually took a vacation for the week. I didn't take the computer, and I kept the phone turned off. Sometimes it's good to unplug for a bit.

  3. What a really pretty wedding dress! Also, the photo of umbrellas looks like it was taken in Asia; I just got back from my trip there and experienced a few rainy days--EVERYONE has umbrellas. I'd never seen so many.

  10. Happy anniversary!!!!!

Jumping in puddles is so much fun, as long as the rain is a warm rain. Cold rain...not so much.

Ten Things of Thankful: Even in Times of Uncertainty

A railroad switch point on the tracks at the Golden Spike National Historic Park There is a lot I don't know. I don't know who will lead the United States for the next four years (at the time I'm composing this post, that hasn't been determined yet.) I don't know when covid cases will stop rising in my state and start decreasing. I don't know how challenging situations will turn out. There is much uncertainty in life. Living in limbo-land is hard. It's emotionally exhausting. It can be immobilizing. My body seems to think chocolate is the answer, but I know that isn't a long-term solution. What do I need in times like these? I need to REMEMBER . 1. R esilience. People are resilient. I am resilient. I'm thankful for resilience. 2. " E ach Life That Touches Ours for Good." So many people, both those I know in "real life," and those I have only met virtually, have taught me, encouraged me, and been examples to me. I'm thankful

Ten Things of Thankful: August Arrives!

A wild sunflower shows its cheery yellow petals My teacher friends are preparing to return to the classroom, whatever that looks like in their district. In any other year, I would be getting excited about BYU's Education Week. 2020 isn't like any other year, though, is it? Ed Week has been postponed to a date TBA and changed to an online format. While I am happy that I am getting projects done around the house, and I'm generally content to live the life of a hermit, I'm literally dreaming of going to Disneyland, which makes me think I must be getting a little case of cabin fever. (I'm not usually a big dreamer, or if I am, I don't usually remember my dreams. This one was particularly funny, I thought: I was in line to get into Disneyland. In front of me in line were the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elder Cook was having trouble and his ticket wasn't scanning. I said to the cast member, "He's OK. Ten Things of Thankful: #GeneralConference Anticipation

Jesus Christ stands in an crowd of kneeling worshippers, with the caption "Peace be unto you."  source In last week's post, I expressed gratitude for some things that hadn't actually happened yet, but that I hoped would soon. This week, I'm thankful that some of those things have happened--and I'm still holding out hope that the others will. In addition, I'm thankful in advance for other events.  To revisit last's week's anticipatory items: My air purifier was repaired, the company sent it back to me, and I'm thankful for clean air. The car wash company accepted responsibility for the accident, have authorized a check to be written to the repair company, and I'm thankful I have an appointment scheduled for the new bumper to be installed. The shop did get the van repaired, though not in time for me to renew the tags before the end of September. However, I'm thankful that the state of Utah offers a temporary registration for only $6 whi
