A political map of the world circa 1987. The Soviet Union takes up a sizable portion. A lot has happened in the last 39 years. The Berlin Wall came down. The Soviet Union collapsed. The Twin Towers fell. Technology has changed: landlines and phone booths are practically extinct, and random questions can be answered in seconds by asking Google, Siri, or Alexa. No longer do drivers keep the Thomas Guide in their cars; navigation systems will give turn-by-turn directions, and recalculate when the driver doesn't follow the directions. Some cars don't even need drivers. While many shoppers do their shopping in-person, some simply log into Amazon and have their item show up on their doorstep--sometimes within hours. I've seen pieces of the Berlin Wall. I've traveled to places that used to be behind the Iron Curtain. I've been to Ground Zero. I no longer have a house phone, and have looked up the answers to countless questions using my cell phone. I do not miss the stress...
Living life with a thankful heart

Look how cute those little kids were!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is the first person in our family (on either side!) who can actually play a musical instrument. I love having the sound of the piano filling the house.
Way to go, Buttercup! That will be a blessing throughout her life.
DeleteModesty ardorns you, but to me, being a Mom and a Musical one at that is a great gift. I'm neither.
ReplyDeleteI hope this post did not make you melancholy--that was not my intent.
DeleteJust Mildly, but not because of your blog. Never hold back because of others!
DeleteYou are a wonderful mom!!
…(trying to see the car in the background to figure out the year of the first photo).
ReplyDeletenext to (the love of) reading, music is as truly essential to a full life
1998, if I'm not mistaken. If you were judging by our car, it would probably be 10 years earlier. :-)
DeleteJust love the family picture!
ReplyDeleteHow true that "Mom" is a title, turned name.
ReplyDeleteIt's always rather funny when multiple women turn toward the cry, "MOM!"
DeleteWonderful, wonderful family pic! Everyone's looking at the camera and no one is picking their nose! Score! And love your grandma at the piano!
ReplyDeleteOr giving bunny ears to their sibling. . .
DeleteI remember you then. :)
