Tuesday Time to Tackle: Spring Decor

 It's March 19th, the day the swallows return to San Juan Capistrano, and oldest daughter's birthday.  The calendar says winter's end is nigh.  I'm ready for bright, cheery spring decor.



These little rabbits greet me every time I enter the house.  Originally, they were in a set of four.  My mom received them from a friend for her 7th birthday.  I remember playing with them when I was a child.




Once I'm inside, I hang my keys up near this basket of bunnies.  I believe my mom made the little bunnies--if she didn't, then my grandma did.  


Another table holds a vase of flowers (some of which were used at our wedding almost 26 years ago), a bunny made by middle daughter when she was in grade school, and a flowered basket with a duck made by my grandma.


I added just a couple of spring touches to the mantle in the next room. 

 

I love how little additions can bring freshness to a room. 

Thanks for springtime, and for oldest daughter.

    Love it all! Especially the little bunnies that belonged to your mother. How special! The mantel looks really good with the nest and clock too!

    Wow those bunnies have history if only they could talk... What would they say?... Your mantel looks so fresh and clean! I love it! And you have tons of books interesting....

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. (The apricot only bears heavily every other year anyway, and I think this is an "off" year--though I could be wrong.) Strawberry plants in full bloom 3. Tuesday Time to Tackle: DIY Swamp Cooler Pump Replacement

Yesterday morning, despite having the swamp cooler on all night long, we woke up to 81 degree temperatures inside the house.  John went outside to inspect and announced that the swamp cooler pump had stopped working. Fortunately, replacing the pump is a quick and simple do-it-yourself project.
