Ten Things of Thankful: Party Hop Edition

Happy birthday to my little sister this weekend!  The Ten Things of Thankful co-hosts are having a party--presumably to celebrate 50 weeks of the TToT (and 1 year, too, since we took off 2 weeks during the holidays)--but my sister's birthday just adds to the festivities for me.

Our fearless leader, Lizzi, suggested that for this TToT, each of the co-hosts should contribute 5 Things of Thankful about the blog hop.  Be sure to go over to Lizzi's blog today to see our combined 50 Things of Thankful.  Also, Lizzi is having a contest!

Here is my contribution:
I'm thankful for the TToT because:
1.  When I "count my many blessings, name them one by one," I always feel better than when I focus on the negative.
2.  I've witnessed great examples of the strength of the human spirit, as I've read accounts of trials and challenges, all with a positive spin.
3.  I've been reminded that the world is not that big, and that people are more alike than different.
4.  I've felt the support of friends I've never met, but who are friends nevertheless.
5.  I have the privilege of being part of the hop that Lizzi built.

Thanks, Lizzi, for coming up with the great idea for this blog hop, and thanks for those who participate.  Thanks, also, for my sister--happy birthday!

  9. #3 is such a biggie for me! I love that this hop has brought so many unlike people together to discover that they have so much in common. The real is the same for everyone, isn't it? I hope you had a better week. Can't really sense from this post.

  10. Happy Birthday to your sister.
(Now, about those berries…. I have seen many excellent plants in photos here at 'Thankful', were any of them (the photos) the source of the anniversary fruit?)

    1. Oh, you don't know how much I wish those raspberries were home-grown. Raspberries are hands-down my favorite fruit. Ever the optimist, I have tried and tried again to get them to survive in my hot-summered, always-windy desert, to no avail. I've finally given up the annual death-sentence planting of raspberries. The beauties on the cake came from the grocery store, as did the cake itself, as long as I'm going for full-disclosure. :-)

  11. Happy Birthday ...

Kristi I am so glad that I have been able to read all the posts of the TTOT - and it is so inspiring to read and feel that "yes you can find something to be thankful for"

I know and feel that the words Thank You ; can be a prayer itself -

Seeing and reading all your posts have given me a lot of hope -

Congrats to all you wonderful ladies
    :)

  13. It's true that we do have many similarities as humans. I think that's what I've found in blogging and it is nice to connect with people with similar interests in different areas. Thank you for being apart of a wonderful blog hop community :)

Ten Things of Thankful: Autumn Edition

It's autumn time, one of my favorite times of year.  I just couldn't leave this weekend as a one-post weekend.

Ten Things of Thankful: Last Two Weeks

Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park, as viewed from an overlook I apologize for not commenting on your blog posts this past week; John and I took a vacation to Yellowstone National Park, leaving behind our computers and, to a large extent, cell phone service. We escaped the outside world and just spent time in nature. Though we have friends near Yellowstone (who we love to visit) we made this trip just about us, so please forgive us if we were nearby and didn't stop by. The crowds were minimal (though we did mask up whenever we passed someone on the trails) and we spent our days hiking, taking photos, and watching geysers erupt. Today, we are back home and back to work, and, in the case of my computer, back to old shenanigans like not letting me import my photos. (I was able to add the above photo by using blogger on my phone, but that isn't my preferred method.) I want to write about Yellowstone and have photos I want to share, but will leave that for another

Monday Mentions: Equate Crutches

Have you ever needed crutches? I hadn't, until a week ago.  I'm pretty sure I strained a muscle while running a half-marathon.  (That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? I'm not actually that cool; the last time I strained a muscle it was from carrying too many shopping bags at once.) In any case, I found myself in need of some crutches. I sent my husband to the store to get some. Photo: A pair of crutches leans against a wall  Not that crutches are all that complex, but because I hadn't used any before, I wondered if I could figure out how to adjust them to fit me properly. I shouldn't have worried. John came home from Walmart with their generic store brand of crutches, complete with instructions. First, I needed to take out a long bolt that went through the hand grip. Then I needed to find my height range, push down two metal pieces, and slide the crutches until the little metal pieces came up in the hole near my height range. (Having two people for this
