Thursday Thoughts: Weight Loss

Years ago, I lost over 40 pounds on Weight Watchers.  (You know where this is going, don't you?) Over the years, I gained it back.  I'm ready to have it gone again, but I'm finding that my progress isn't so rapid this time.

Why not?  Because my efforts aren't as consistent as they were.  Instead of jumping in with both feet, I'm easing in to re-establishing the habits I need to succeed.

I've lost weight, but I've plateaued, so it's time to step up the commitment.  My exercise routine has been slipping the past couple of weeks, so I need to make sure to get back into that habit.  I like to walk, particularly with friends.  When I have someone who is expecting me to show up and walk, it's harder to cancel.  My walking partner has been out of town, but is now back, so we will start again.  I have been playing on the Wii a bit while she's been gone, but not nearly as often as I should.

And then, of course, there is the other half of the equation:  eating.  I know that when I track what I eat, and allot my points wisely, I lose weight.  I just need to remember to do that.  For my health.  Not for swimsuit season.

Thanks for a body--no matter the size, shape, or condition, a body is a remarkable blessing.

  1. I'm with ya on this, Kristi! I too, lost 40 pounds way back when (like 25 years ago!) and it has crept back again and again. And it's true....it's much harder to do now that we're older. I wish I had the commitment I had back then! But walking with friends is definitely a plus!

  2. Hey I do Wii fit too...walking is not easy on loose gravel road here. I have more than you to lose. I track on www.sparkpeople.com ... which is a free site with lots of info, and really helps me keep track of what I eat since I have favorite foods listed making tracking fast and easy. I know when I am in my calorie range and if I have enough protein and carbs or too little. I track my 8 glasses of water on there too. LOVE that website. I've lost over 20 lbs but have tons more to go. Don't let your weight get ahead of you much more, it is a real pain to get to massive size then slim down. Keep moving!

  4. Oh, I could give a very lengthy response at this one, but I don't.

What's 40 pounds?? You eat healthy, don't smoke or drink and excercise plenty. That's a good thing!! If you just stay healty, weight doesn't mean that much.

Ten Things of Thankful: 39 Years Edition

A political map of the world circa 1987. The Soviet Union takes up a sizable portion. A lot has happened in the last 39 years. The Berlin Wall came down. The Soviet Union collapsed. The Twin Towers fell. Technology has changed: landlines and phone booths are practically extinct, and random questions can be answered in seconds by asking Google, Siri, or Alexa. No longer do drivers keep the Thomas Guide in their cars; navigation systems will give turn-by-turn directions, and recalculate when the driver doesn't follow the directions. Some cars don't even need drivers. While many shoppers do their shopping in-person, some simply log into Amazon and have their item show up on their doorstep--sometimes within hours.  I've seen pieces of the Berlin Wall. I've traveled to places that used to be behind the Iron Curtain. I've been to Ground Zero. I no longer have a house phone, and have looked up the answers to countless questions using my cell phone. I do not miss the stress...

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. (The apricot only bears heavily every other year anyway, and I think this is an "off" year--though I could be wrong.) Strawberry plants in full bloom 3. I'm thankful for anticipated berries.  We continue to clear out and otherwise prepare John's parents' house for sale. I've been going through old photos and...

Tuesday Time to Tackle: DIY Swamp Cooler Pump Replacement

Yesterday morning, despite having the swamp cooler on all night long, we woke up to 81 degree temperatures inside the house.  John went outside to inspect and announced that the swamp cooler pump had stopped working. Fortunately, replacing the pump is a quick and simple do-it-yourself project.
