stock photo of old computer monitor When I was 10 or 11, I remember sitting next to my dad in our living room and reading computer code to him as he entered it into an Apple computer. We would finish the exercise and he would hit enter (or was it "run"?) and wait expectantly for the green type to appear on the screen. If we were lucky, the whole conversation would occur. Most often, there would be an error either in my dictation of the code, or in the typing of the code. We would then go painstakingly back through the lines, character by character, to find and correct the error. After what seemed like hours (and might have been), we would succeed and the computer would finally run the entire program. It was magical! My dad designed and built an earth-sheltered, passive solar home decades before solar panels were commonplace. He also was on a 9-month waiting list for a Prius, when hybrids were not seen on every street. While my dad is definitely on the cutting edge of technol...
Great photos! Looks like you girls had lots of fun together.
ReplyDeleteNone of our cousins lived in town. Luckily, though, we were the ones that lived near our grandparents (on my dad's side). We played with them whenever they came to town, and our grandparents oftentimes took one of us when they went to visit my cousins.
My mom is Canadian, so we only got to see her mom once a year. I've only met her brother's kids once, back when I was 10 or so.
It's wonderful that you have this special family connection. As an only child from a very small family myself I have no such childhood memories however I married into a large family with many siblings and cousins and my own children have many, many such childhood connections which I'm so happy about.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you girls have tons of memories.
The pictures are amazing I wish I could find some of my cousins and me.

I love all the old photos and memories! I've got a lot of those mis-dated photos, too! I do love our digital age! You three look like you had lots of fun together - maybe just a tiny bit of mischief! Until I was 11 I was surrounded by cousins, I was the oldest of us all but it never mattered! I am still very close to a few of them and like you sure wish they lived closer.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are real treasures, but the connection you obviously have with your cousins is priceless.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a lovely post! I have photos like this - and similar memories - of my cousin and me. We are six months apart in age and grew up very close, like you and yours. Think I'll go give her a call...
