An antique typewriter Each week, Denise at Girlie on the Edge blog posts a prompt word and invites bloggers to come up with a Six Sentence Story. It's a fun challenge for writers, and a delight for readers. Go over to her blog to read what others have written, and feel free to post your own story, too! This week's prompt: twist. ********************************* The kids who moved in next door were big kids--much older than her 3-year-old self--but they might be fun to play with, and as they were coming towards her, the idea of them being new friends seemed at least possible. She was rather shy, but she understood the basics of making friends, so when those neighbors crowded all around her and asked her what her name was, she didn't hesitate to answer. She thought she had spoken loudly enough, but apparently her shyness got the best of her, because they didn't seem to have heard her. Great photos! Looks like you girls had lots of fun together.
ReplyDeleteNone of our cousins lived in town. Luckily, though, we were the ones that lived near our grandparents (on my dad's side). We played with them whenever they came to town, and our grandparents oftentimes took one of us when they went to visit my cousins.
My mom is Canadian, so we only got to see her mom once a year. I've only met her brother's kids once, back when I was 10 or so.
It's wonderful that you have this special family connection. As an only child from a very small family myself I have no such childhood memories however I married into a large family with many siblings and cousins and my own children have many, many such childhood connections which I'm so happy about.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you girls have tons of memories.
The pictures are amazing I wish I could find some of my cousins and me.

I love all the old photos and memories! I've got a lot of those mis-dated photos, too! I do love our digital age! You three look like you had lots of fun together - maybe just a tiny bit of mischief! Until I was 11 I was surrounded by cousins, I was the oldest of us all but it never mattered! I am still very close to a few of them and like you sure wish they lived closer.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are real treasures, but the connection you obviously have with your cousins is priceless.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a lovely post! I have photos like this - and similar memories - of my cousin and me. We are six months apart in age and grew up very close, like you and yours. Think I'll go give her a call...
