10 Things of Thankful: Week 6

Joining up again for the 10 Things of Thankful blog hop.  Click on the Ten Things of Thankful photo below to go read the other entries, and feel free to write your own post to link up.  This is really one of my favorite blog hops!

Ten Things of Thankful

1.  I'm thankful for call blocking.  On Wednesday and Thursday this week, we kept getting calls from one particular phone number.  The phone would ring once, but the caller hang up before we answered--a fairly harmless prank, but when two of the calls were at 2:31 a.m. and 2:58 a.m., we started to get a bit annoyed. Fortunately, we could easily add that number to our call blocking list.  Problem solved.

2.  I'm thankful for the internet, which allowed me to quickly look up (at 3 a.m.!) how to block calls.  It also allowed me to do a reverse phone number look-up, where I learned that the particular phone number in question is associated with spam.  I really don't feel bad about blocking the calls.

3.  I'm thankful for rain.  It finally rained this week.  Judging from Drexel's reaction to having to go out in the rain to relieve, it hasn't rained since at least January.  He kept spinning around to see who was getting him wet!  I think I'll need to make sure to take him outside again the next time it rains, so he can get accustomed to rain.

It's hard to tell, but the patio is damp from rain.

4.  I'm thankful for sunsets.  While I was out rejoicing in the rain, I noticed this view from my backyard:

5.  I'm thankful for church girl's camp.  Youngest daughter has been camping this past week, building friendships, testimony, and memories.

6.  I'm thankful for the opportunity to speak in church tomorrow.  With no paid clergy, instead of a pastor speaking each Sunday, church members are asked to prepare and deliver the talks each week.  I always learn the most when I've been asked to speak.

7.  I'm thankful for the atonement of Jesus Christ (which just happens to be the assigned subject of my talk.)  The atonement occurred in the Garden of Gethsemane, when Christ took upon Himself all the sins, sorrows, and pains in the world.  What a wonderful act of mercy and love!

8.  I'm thankful for John, who is the designated grave-digger for our deceased pets.  Poor youngest daughter arrived home from girl's camp to discover her pet rat dead.  I assured her that we had been taking care of him during the week; he did not die of neglect.  John handles each funeral with dignity rivaling that of Dr. Huxtable:

9.  I'm thankful for a packed, busy day which miraculously became free of obligations.

10.  I'm thankful for happy surprises, like youngest son coming home unexpectedly for a weekend visit.

  3. OHHH Bill Cosby. Brilliant. THANK YOU :)

It sounds as though you had a horrible time with those calls - glad you've found a way of fixing them!

What a great experience for your daughter, and a wonderful surprise that your son came home unexpectedly - what a blessing children are.

Thank you for joining in with the Ten Things hop and sharing such marvellous high points in your week.

Apart from the dead rat, which is a shame.

  5. I have been to several LDS services, and I always enjoy listening to the church members speak. I especially liked the week my brother spoke. I saw a very different, more mature side of my brother than I had ever seen before.
After last year's drought, I can appreciate how much that bit of rain lifted spirits. It's funny that Drexel was so confused by it.
Awesome episode of the Cosby show!
Hope you are enjoying time with your son.

  8. enjoyed #2! lol while calls like that are a pain in the neck, I laughed at the recognition of how much we all have available in terms of resources to do and learn new things. An amazing time to be alive.
    busy days are good too!

thank you for your Post here at the TTofT

  9. Getting a call in the middle of the night usually means someone is dead or in the hospital. I guess the only good news about it being a telemarketing call is that it meant no one you knew was dead or in the hospital! Glad the call blocking worked for you. May it continue to do so!

We have two hamsters in the deep freeze that we keep forgetting to bury. Can I send them to your house for proper interment?

Ten Things of Thankful: Autumn Edition

It's autumn time, one of my favorite times of year.  I just couldn't leave this weekend as a one-post weekend.

Ten Things of Thankful: Last Two Weeks

Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park, as viewed from an overlook I apologize for not commenting on your blog posts this past week; John and I took a vacation to Yellowstone National Park, leaving behind our computers and, to a large extent, cell phone service. We escaped the outside world and just spent time in nature. Though we have friends near Yellowstone (who we love to visit) we made this trip just about us, so please forgive us if we were nearby and didn't stop by. The crowds were minimal (though we did mask up whenever we passed someone on the trails) and we spent our days hiking, taking photos, and watching geysers erupt. Today, we are back home and back to work, and, in the case of my computer, back to old shenanigans like not letting me import my photos. (I was able to add the above photo by using blogger on my phone, but that isn't my preferred method.) I want to write about Yellowstone and have photos I want to share, but will leave that for another

Monday Mentions: Equate Crutches

Have you ever needed crutches? I hadn't, until a week ago.  I'm pretty sure I strained a muscle while running a half-marathon.  (That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? I'm not actually that cool; the last time I strained a muscle it was from carrying too many shopping bags at once.) In any case, I found myself in need of some crutches. I sent my husband to the store to get some. Photo: A pair of crutches leans against a wall  Not that crutches are all that complex, but because I hadn't used any before, I wondered if I could figure out how to adjust them to fit me properly. I shouldn't have worried. John came home from Walmart with their generic store brand of crutches, complete with instructions. First, I needed to take out a long bolt that went through the hand grip. Then I needed to find my height range, push down two metal pieces, and slide the crutches until the little metal pieces came up in the hole near my height range. (Having two people for this
