Tuesday Time to Tackle: Laundry Room Decor

I value function.  If a room works, I'm happy.  The laundry room in my house is a good-sized room.  When we remodeled our kitchen, we saved the old cabinets.  Some of these sit in our laundry room now, and provide a counter on which to fold clothes.  Still, after years of staring at a blank wall, I thought, "Why can't this room be cute as well as functional?"  




I looked around my house, gathered up items that weren't currently being used, and gave them a home in my laundry room.  I used fabric I had on hand to make a skirt for the sink, and curtains for the window and the shelf.  I did buy a clock at the thrift store, velcro to attach the skirt and one of the curtains, and a tension rod for the window. 

My laundry room now makes me smile. 




I love the fact that such a big impact could occur with minimal cost, time, and effort.

    What a difference Kristi!!! Great job re-using things from around the house. I am sure you smile each time you walk in there. I love pretty laundry rooms...they make the chore so much easier!

    Nice job - I wish I had an actual laundry room: my machines are in a closet.

    Always nice to change things around a bit every once in a while. I love to do so myself too. Minimum costs, maximum results!!!
    Looks real nice there. You could almost enjoy doing laundry now. ....almost....

    The room looks great! And to think, you had all of that around the house already. Unfortunately, it would take a lot more than that to make my dungeon/laundry room pleasant to be in.

    Great going! You should have it looking nice since you're in there often enough. I wish I could say the same but ours is just a corner in the unfinished basement. I do have a window though and that's nice.

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. (The apricot only bears heavily every other year anyway, and I think this is an "off" year--though I could be wrong.) Strawberry plants in full bloom 3. Tuesday Time to Tackle: DIY Swamp Cooler Pump Replacement

Yesterday morning, despite having the swamp cooler on all night long, we woke up to 81 degree temperatures inside the house.  John went outside to inspect and announced that the swamp cooler pump had stopped working. Fortunately, replacing the pump is a quick and simple do-it-yourself project.
