(Nearly) Wordless Wednesday: Anticipating Harvest

We've already harvested a bunch of artichokes, and clearly are falling behind.

I'm having a hard time picking strawberries before Drexel does.

"Only two things that money can't buy, and that's true love and home-grown tomatoes."

I need to plant more lettuce, so I can extend the season.

The pomegranate seems well-established now, and is blooming on an annual basis.

    Your garden looks beautiful! I was out in my garden yesterday taking pictures too. Was able to pick 7 green beans ...not sure what I will do with 7 green beans lol but I sure am proud of 'em! Maybe stir fry?

    I planted artichokes and I'm not too sure how to grow them. They have to be 4 ft across?? If so, that's 8 ft for my two plants? What should I expect?

      Believe it or not, my artichoke is planted in a square-foot garden. It does take up an entire 4x4 foot box, though, so 4 feet apart sounds about right.

      Artichokes are perennial. I think my plant is 3 years old now. It dies down after producing in the spring, but comes back the following year.

      If you are planting 2 plants, you might expect tons of artichokes!

    Your plants look lovely, especially your artichokes! I'm anticipating some of those myself---this is my first year growing them, so I'm not sure what to expect. :)

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. Monday Mentions: Equate Crutches

Have you ever needed crutches? I hadn't, until a week ago.  I'm pretty sure I strained a muscle while running a half-marathon.  (That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? I'm not actually that cool; the last time I strained a muscle it was from carrying too many shopping bags at once.) In any case, I found myself in need of some crutches. I sent my husband to the store to get some. I shouldn't have worried. John came home from Walmart with their generic store brand of crutches, complete with instructions. First, I needed to take out a long bolt that went through the hand grip.
