Tuesday Time to Tackle: Deck the Halls

With Thanksgiving so early this year, I had grand plans of having my house decorated for Christmas by December 1st.  That didn't happen, but it's OK. 
I'm pretty sure I'll remember 2012 as the year my granddaughter was born, not the year I was later than usual with my Christmas decor. 

My plan today is to finish getting the house ready.  The local Guide Dog club is meeting here for a Christmas potluck dinner party tonight.   John put up some lights outside last night, and we got the ornaments hung on the Christmas tree.  I love the cozy feeling that Christmas decor brings to our home.



Thanks for the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the Christmas season, and for the fun of gatherings.

    Your decorations are just beautiful Kristi, even if you didn't get them up when you wanted. You're so right...a new baby, what a wonderful gift any time but especially at this time of year. The Guide Dog Club....I assume you're involved with this organization? My brother-in-law lost his sight suddenly this year so we've done a bit of investigation into dogs. He's not ready for that yet but at some point I assume he will be. blessings, marlene

      I've been a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind for over a year now, and I must say I'm very impressed with the organization. You can find more information on their website: www.guidedogs.com. The dogs are provided free of charge to the blind, and the organization does an excellent job assuring that the dogs are ready for service before being placed with a blind person.

    Oh what a beautiful tree, Kristi! I think I could easily leave Christmas decorations up all year -- all the warm, pretty colors just make me smile every where I turn! Hope your party was successful!

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. (The apricot only bears heavily every other year anyway, and I think this is an "off" year--though I could be wrong.) Strawberry plants in full bloom 3. Tuesday Time to Tackle: DIY Swamp Cooler Pump Replacement

Yesterday morning, despite having the swamp cooler on all night long, we woke up to 81 degree temperatures inside the house.  John went outside to inspect and announced that the swamp cooler pump had stopped working. Fortunately, replacing the pump is a quick and simple do-it-yourself project.
