Ten Things of Thankful: Thanksgiving Edition

Thanksgiving Day has come and gone, but the gratitude lingers.  I still have a houseful of visiting relatives, so I will make this list quick (but heartfelt).

1.  I'm thankful for the safe travels of everyone.

2.  I'm thankful for my children and their significant others, and for the fact that those who couldn't travel home could travel to my brother's house and enjoy Thanksgiving dinner surrounded by relatives.

3.  I'm thankful for good news that shall remain unspecified until further notice.

4.  (To continue with the vague, but still grateful vein) I'm thankful that those who visited the ER on Thanksgiving morning were still able to return to my house in time for a warm dinner.

5.  I'm thankful for my grandchildren.

6.  I'm thankful for both my side of the family, and John's side of the family.  We all get along nicely, and everyone makes themselves at home and pitches in to help.  Easy house guests!  :-)

7.  I'm thankful for games.  After the meal is over, out come the board games.

8.  I'm thankful for Drexel, who is a friendly, but not overbearing host.

9.  I'm thankful for a serendipitous find.  I was looking for a china cabinet in which to store my great-grandma's china.  I found an ad on craigslist, bought the piece without measuring either the cabinet nor the spot I wanted to put it.  We did have to remove a baseboard to put it in position, but what a fit!

10.  I'm thankful for John.  Things can get a little hectic during this time of year, but we are a great team.  House got cleaned, meal got cooked, and sanity is still intact.  :-)

Happy Thanksgiving to you!  How has your week gone?

  1. Happy Thanksgiving. My mom had a similar piece - pull down middle desk and all. A great find. Family, always family and it's spectacular when both sides get along.

  4. How cool is that cabinet fitting thing!
And, of course, Drexel (I think dogs enjoy Thanksgiving more than cats and canaries) that's not just my opinion, both Ola and Bella used to spend the entire day with Phyllis as she cooked. Una was not far away, but is a bit more laid back.

    1. We were amazed at the custom fit!
Drexel likes to stand between me and the counter as I cook.

Six Sentence Story: Twist

An antique typewriter Each week, Denise at Girlie on the Edge blog posts a prompt word and invites bloggers to come up with a Six Sentence Story. It's a fun challenge for writers, and a delight for readers. Go over to her blog to read what others have written, and feel free to post your own story, too! This week's prompt: twist. ********************************* The kids who moved in next door were big kids--much older than her 3-year-old self--but they might be fun to play with, and as they were coming towards her, the idea of them being new friends seemed at least possible. She was rather shy, but she understood the basics of making friends, so when those neighbors crowded all around her and asked her what her name was, she didn't hesitate to answer.  She thought she had spoken loudly enough, but apparently her shyness got the best of her, because they didn't seem to have heard her.  "Twisty?" they asked, and recognizing she needed to be even louder, she ...

Ten Things of Thankful: Lovely Autumn

I've mentioned before, but it bears repeating, that I love fall.  This week I noticed the following:

Ten Things of Thankful: Valentine's Day is in Spring Edition

Despite what the groundhog predicted, here in my neck of the woods we have been enjoying balmy weather.  I think the nation needs a west coast groundhog to provide the local forecast.  I've spent time in my backyard this week, pruning palms and roses, pulling weeds, and planting raspberries and lilacs.  For those of you still buried in snow, I offer a hopeful glimpse of weather to come:
