Ten Things of Thankful: A Magical Trip Edition


I'm linking up late in the weekend because I wanted to return home before I hit the publish button.  I thought maybe I was on vacation, but I learned from this article that I was actually on a trip.  If you've ever slept somewhere other than your own bed at home, go click on that link and have a good laugh.  Then come back and finish reading my post.  (Disclaimer:  I do not agree 100% with the article's author, so if you are extended family, do not be offended. Opinions expressed in that article do not necessarily reflect my own feelings.)
Whatever it was that we experienced, it was fun.  My thankfuls (and photos) exceed 10, but my time to get this written is short. (I'm typing this Sunday morning in a motel room in St. George, Utah, before we get on the road again. I'll publish it when we have arrived home.) This post will cover the first part of the trip, and I'll do another post later this week so I can share photos of the Grand Canyon.  

Without further ado, come along on my road trip!  I'm thankful:

 1.  For road signs that always make me smile.

2.  For rain.  (More on that in another post.)

 3.  For the ability of cameras to take recognizable shots even when taken at 80 mph through a dirty window. See rain shots above, and this photo:

4.  For the blog, Her Headache, to remind me to caption my photos so those who are visually impaired can know what I showing. I feel rather stupid that, as a puppy-raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind, it has taken me this long to recognize this need.  I'm sure my blog could use even more improvement in the area of accessibility; I'm going to do some research into steps I can take to make it better.

 5.  For a short hike after a long car ride.

6.  For beauty found in abandoned objects.

    Wow, your captions on your photos are fantastic, as are the photos themselves. It looks like it was a lovely wedding.

    I know all cats think they are capable of world domination, but a sphinx cat always looks even more determined to achieve it!

    EISLEY!!!!WELCOME!!!I agree with Vanessa about your photos and improved accessibility... I have to work on that too! Vanessa had a great article on it in yesterday's post.

      I saw that article, and another one, too (that I forgot to bookmark--I'll have to look it up again). Making the blog more accessible is on my radar, though realistically I'm not sure when I'll get a big blog overhaul done. I figure captioning is easy, in the meantime.
      Eisley's a cutie; it will be fun to see her grow up. Right now she is so little!

    Your hmmm....trip looks amazing. That bobber photo looks so peaceful!

    Reading the article I burst out laughing at the part about it being a trip if you and your spouse fought about packing methods. So--many--trips!!

      The line that got me was the one about taking a vacation from opening the mail. :-) I just got home today, and I'm waiting until tomorrow to check the mailbox!

    I didn't realize Eisley was a calico AND a baldy! Even cooler! How is Leela taking this new family member?
    Great pictures! I especially love the one of Silver Lake, with the pine tree reflections in the water, and the black and white of the bride and groom.
    And how cute was that reception?!

      Leela is also a calico baldy. As for her thoughts on this new family member, I don't know. My daughter is introducing them super slowly. Right now, they have only seen each other with an interior glass door between them. My daughter feeds them treats as they eye each other through the glass. Hopefully they will be best buddies! :-)

    Sounds like you both had a wonderful trip to Utah. I love Utah! Have you ever been near or in Moab, UT? Fun town but the beauty surrounding it is even better. We had a lovely time there last year (is it really only a year ago we were there?!!)
    Weddings are great and the newly weds look so lovely.

    Maybe just one small point to improve on on your blog??; let linked pages open in a new tab. That way visitors won't have to leave your blog with the chance that they don't come back. Not a criticism, just a hint. I love your pictures as always, captioned or not.

      Thanks for the advice! I took it to heart in my most recent post. I see that it is easy to have links open in new windows. I'll try to remember to check that box in the future when I put in links. :-)

    The bouquet toss photo-bomb photo is priceless!

    I'm thankful that manufacturers now have tagless clothing identification - no more irritating and scratchy tags.

    is it ok to say, about the cat in the photo, "dude! was that the Number 10 stick you got hit with?"
    Having said that, I will say that it's certainly an…. imposing looking cat….

    Looks like you had a wonderful time! This week I am thankful for that rain, too. We haven't gotten as much as you have but Saturday and Sunday brought some nice showers. It is fun to watch the birds when it starts to rain -- they've missed it, too!

Have you ever needed crutches? I hadn't, until a week ago.  I'm pretty sure I strained a muscle while running a half-marathon.  (That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? Ten Things of Thankful: 39 Years Edition

A political map of the world circa 1987. The Soviet Union takes up a sizable portion. A lot has happened in the last 39 years. The Berlin Wall came down. The Soviet Union collapsed. The Twin Towers fell. Technology has changed: landlines and phone booths are practically extinct, and random questions can be answered in seconds by asking Google, Siri, or Alexa. No longer do drivers keep the Thomas Guide in their cars; navigation systems will give turn-by-turn directions, and recalculate when the driver doesn't follow the directions. Some cars don't even need drivers. While many shoppers do their shopping in-person, some simply log into Amazon and have their item show up on their doorstep--sometimes within hours.  I've seen pieces of the Berlin Wall. I've traveled to places that used to be behind the Iron Curtain. I've been to Ground Zero. I no longer have a house phone, and have looked up the answers to countless questions using my cell phone. Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. (The apricot only bears heavily every other year anyway, and I think this is an "off" year--though I could be wrong.) Strawberry plants in full bloom 3.
