Ten Things of Thankful: Good-bye Oregon, Hello California

After a wonderful visit in Oregon, I've returned to California. Here's my Show and Tell report:

1.  I'm thankful for ice cream for breakfast.  No, this wasn't a family tradition relived, but rather evidence of Mom's practical nature.  If one mistakenly puts the ice cream in the refrigerator instead of the freezer, when one discovers the softened treat the next morning, the obvious answer is to serve it for breakfast. You'll hear no objection from me.  In fact, I might have suggested it!

2.  I'm thankful for precipitation.  The overcast skies from which water falls as drizzle, rain, hail--or Oregon's favorite, "liquid sunshine"--just beg me to slow down.

3.  I'm thankful for the bucolic setting of my parents' area. Greeting the neighbor's lambs with a "Baaaa!" and having them return the call makes me laugh every time.

4.  I'm thankful for cute little towns that reflect their cultural origins.

5.  I'm thankful for unexpected sights.  I wondered if this camel had as amazing a story as Bruce.

6.  I'm thankful for bloggers who have a search gadget on their blogs.  I'm usually pretty good about remembering which blogger wrote about a particular subject (like a camel) but I don't always remember exactly when I read it.  A search gadget makes it very easy to find and link the post.

7.  I'm thankful for whimsy.  I don't know who owns this house, but I love it.  I love Craftsman homes anyway, but this one just begged to have its photo taken!

8.  I'm thankful that animals still roam free, and that this sight is not uncommon for my parents:

9.  I'm thankful for the beautiful blossoms of spring.

10.  I'm thankful I had a chance to visit my parents and grandma, and I'm thankful to be home with John.  While I was gone, John surprised me by repairing the light fixture in our bedroom.  Our room is bright and cheery now!

(11.)  Just heard from my oldest daughter that she has been accepted to multiple law schools!  Now all she has to do is decide between them.  :-)

    1. It wasn't just one camel, either--the last time I drove by I counted 5! The same place also had miniature donkeys. (Thanks for that search engine!)

  3. Your pictures this week are stunning! The craftsman style cottage and bright and beautiful window box are making me want to get outside and start working on some curb appeal projects over here. Glad you had a great visit and hooray to your daughter's acceptance into the school of her choosing!

  4. Ice cream for breakfast?
    Nailed it!!!
I'm all about non-breakfast foods for breakfast like Pop Tarts of the confetti flavour variety.
I love the flowers. We don't have any blooms yet. Actually, our snow just melted. And we are getting more as we speak. I think that we are going straight to summer this year!!
I hope that you have a wonderful week!

    1. Our temps are warming up here in CA. The paper said it was 87 yesterday--a record high for the date. It's so strange to think that parts of the country are still getting snow!

  5. I'd eat ice cream for breakfast any day. Your photos are lovely. It makes me happy to look at them. Also thankful I live in a place where wildlife (deer, turkeys, etc) can be seen on a regular basis. Have a good week. Congrats to your daughter.

    1. Funny you should mention turkeys. When I was in Oregon, one day the front-page story in the newspaper was an article about a flock of wild turkeys that showed up in someone's backyard!

  7. Congratulations to your daughter! I sure wish you could have brought some of that precipitation home with you and then nudged it a bit south. We sure could use some. Glad you had a wonderful week. :)

    1. I wish so, too! We've had record-breaking heat the past couple of days.

  8. Your pictures are always so gorgeous, Kristi! The one of the rain is amazing! Craftsman is my favorite house style, as well. Bucolic is one of the words that doesn't mean what it sounds like it should mean. Like enervate and inertia and nonplused. Bucolic sounds like vomit to me.
Glad you had such a good time! I wish I could have joined you for an ice cream breakfast!

    1. You're right about bucolic--kind of a cross between bronchitis and colic in sound to me!

    2. I think the same thing. Bucolic really should mean something horrible.

  9. All of your photos are beautiful.

  10. Congratulations to your daughter!
I never did put a search thing on my blog. I guess I figure there's not a whole lot of useful info on mine, so no one would really be needing to search it. :)

    Such pretty photos, as always.

There is no sound like the bleat of a lamb. You can't help but laugh.

  11. Beautiful photos, Kristi! They've left me feeling a bit nostalgic for Oregon, but not enough to make me want to move back......love the sunshine too much!
