10 Things of Thankful: Week Three

I'm happily linking up again to the 3rd "10 Things of Thankful" blog hop.  I'd encourage you to hop over and view some of the other submissions.  There are many reasons to be thankful!

Ten Things of Thankful

1.  After not seeing the resident bunny for months, he is again making his appearance in our backyard.

2.  The temperatures have dropped down from the triple-digits to a much more pleasant range of upper-80s to mid-90s.

3.  John fixed the dryer, so it has heat again.  (I recognize #2 could help with laundry drying, but the frequent wind/dust combinations would probably blow freshly-washed, but now-dirty clothes into my neighbors' yard.)

4.  The honest auto repair shop fixed the rattling van.  No longer do we notice a vibration above 45 mph.

5.  Conversations with my granddaughter.

6.  Cute baby giggles.

7.  I filled my car up with gas the day before the price increase.

8.  The garden continues to grow.

9.  Though my projects never end, I do have time to work on many enjoyable things.

10.   I can now run 5 miles at a time.

Thanks for life, and the reminders of all that is good.

  3. I cannot believe that is the same baby!!! She's gotten so big.
Bummer that the hot weather can't even be helpful with the laundry. It continues to amaze me how we live in the same country, yet live in such vastly different conditions.
Good, honest mechanics are most certainly worth a grateful point!
Congrats on the 5 miles! You're almost to that 10k mark!

  6. Sorry I haven't been around for a while. I guess you'll understand...

How Naomi has grown!!! What a gorgeous girl is she. Everything good with her mom and dad?
Good for me too, to realize I have lots to be thankful for. Sometimes it's easy to forget when live is dealing some blows, but I must never forget how blessed we are in other areas. Thank you for sharing your moments of thankfulness and helping me remember mine.
    Have a nice sunday.

  7. ...photo # 2!! (tell me that you know how you achieved that '3D' effect... very cool).

running is so amazing, mostly because you have concrete and undeniable evidence of your accomplishment:

(" ok, here is where I started... lets drive this way.... here is the halfway point, look out for that bicyclist! ...and.... right up ...there is where I stopped running!")

    1. Regarding the second photo, I achieved that effect with Picasa, a photo editing program. I'm not a skilled enough photographer to be able to achieve that with only my camera!

  8. Your granddaughter has expressive eyes - she's a cutie!

  9. You have 10 really good reasons! An honest auto mechanic? and of course 5 and 6 are my favorites but number 10 is just awesome! So happy for you because I know how hard you have worked on that one!

  11. 1. Your granddaughter is darling. 2. I always seem to have a reasonably full tank when the gas is low and am running on vapors when the gas jumps up 20 cents a gallon. 3. Isn't it a little sad when we think highs in the 90s feel cool?

  12. I looked your Thankful Me post! Your granddaughter made me smile! I am thankful for that. Smiling is great for our health.

Monday Mentions: Equate Crutches

Have you ever needed crutches? I hadn't, until a week ago.  I'm pretty sure I strained a muscle while running a half-marathon.  (That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? I'm not actually that cool; the last time I strained a muscle it was from carrying too many shopping bags at once.) In any case, I found myself in need of some crutches. I sent my husband to the store to get some. Photo: A pair of crutches leans against a wall  Not that crutches are all that complex, but because I hadn't used any before, I wondered if I could figure out how to adjust them to fit me properly. I shouldn't have worried. John came home from Walmart with their generic store brand of crutches, complete with instructions. First, I needed to take out a long bolt that went through the hand grip. Then I needed to find my height range, push down two metal pieces, and slide the crutches until the little metal pieces came up in the hole near my height range. (Having two people for this...

Ten Things of Thankful: Live from Oregon, part 2

stock photo of old computer monitor When I was 10 or 11, I remember sitting next to my dad in our living room and reading computer code to him as he entered it into an Apple computer. We would finish the exercise and he would hit enter (or was it "run"?) and wait expectantly for the green type to appear on the screen. If we were lucky, the whole conversation would occur. Most often, there would be an error either in my dictation of the code, or in the typing of the code. We would then go painstakingly back through the lines, character by character, to find and correct the error. After what seemed like hours (and might have been), we would succeed and the computer would finally run the entire program. It was magical! My dad designed and built an earth-sheltered, passive solar home decades before solar panels were commonplace. He also was on a 9-month waiting list for a Prius, when hybrids were not seen on every street.  While my dad is definitely on the cutting edge of technol...

Ten Things of Thankful: Oregon Edition, Part 3

A western bluebird, sitting at the base of a house window, looks inside Thanks (1) to those who have sent well-wishes for my mom's recovery. Her wrist is healing up nicely. I met a friend from high school for lunch this past week. It was so nice to have a chance to visit with her for a couple of hours. She is one of those friends who it doesn't matter how much time has passed, we can pick right back up into meaningful conversations. Lunch ended all too soon, but I'm so thankful (2) for her, and I'm thankful (3) that she reminded me of the importance of reaching out to others.  Being in my parents' home this week, visiting with a long-time (I'm not saying old!) friend, and with Mother's Day tomorrow, my mind naturally reflects upon the women in my life. I'm thankful (4) for an incredible mom--a gentle woman who taught and loved and guided us (and still does.) I'm thankful (5) for grandmas who were different in their personalities but united in their...
