Thursday Thoughts: Heigh-Ho, Whistle While You Work, and Other Motivation to Exercise

I'm a big fan of Disneyland.  (In fact, I'm wearing my Mickey Mouse sweatshirt as I compose this post.)  I love the cleanliness of the park, the smiles on the cast members' faces, and the music throughout the lands.  I love the fact that I can know Disneyland like the back of my hand, yet still see new details each time I visit.

I recently signed up to run a 10K race at Disneyland later this year.  I've never run that far before, and given the fact that I haven't been running regularly at all lately, I will definitely need to train.  No other 10K venue would have motivated me like Disneyland will.  I am so excited!  My oldest daughter also signed up, so we will be able to run together.

Last year, youngest daughter and I completed the Never Land 5K at Disneyland

"Choose an activity you enjoy" and "Find a buddy" are cardinal rules when establishing an exercise habit.  Setting measurable goals and rewarding yourself are important, too.  I've covered all my bases with the Disneyland 10K.

How do you find motivation to exercise?
Thanks for the vision of Walt Disney, and for my oldest daughter for running with me.

  1. 10K?! Oh wow, that is ambitious Kristi! I wish you and your daughter the very best of luck. I have had friends motivate me as well to exercise but I find the best motivation is myself. I have learned over the years that I have to WANT to do it or I won't. It has to all come from me. Having a friend along does make it less boring though! LOL

    Have a wonderful day.

  2. Yes, finding an exercise or activity you love is the best motivation. Sometimes it is difficult to find an exercise partner with similar abilities and endurance levels.

Running is not a passion of mine, so I would probably walk the 10K rather than run it. ;oD

  3. I am older than dirt so I remember when Disneyland opened. Every night my bedtime prayers ended with please let me go to Disneyland and that summer my prayers were answered! Probably one of the most magical of my childhood memories, I still love that place and feel just like a little kid whenever we go there.

  4. How much fun is that? If it weren't for the running, it would be perfect fun. :) What a great experience for you and your daughter to share.

Six Sentence Story: Twist

An antique typewriter Each week, Denise at Girlie on the Edge blog posts a prompt word and invites bloggers to come up with a Six Sentence Story. It's a fun challenge for writers, and a delight for readers. Go over to her blog to read what others have written, and feel free to post your own story, too! This week's prompt: twist. ********************************* The kids who moved in next door were big kids--much older than her 3-year-old self--but they might be fun to play with, and as they were coming towards her, the idea of them being new friends seemed at least possible. She was rather shy, but she understood the basics of making friends, so when those neighbors crowded all around her and asked her what her name was, she didn't hesitate to answer.  She thought she had spoken loudly enough, but apparently her shyness got the best of her, because they didn't seem to have heard her.  "Twisty?" they asked, and recognizing she needed to be even louder, she ...

Ten Things of Thankful: Lovely Autumn

I've mentioned before, but it bears repeating, that I love fall.  This week I noticed the following:

Ten Things of Thankful: Valentine's Day is in Spring Edition

Despite what the groundhog predicted, here in my neck of the woods we have been enjoying balmy weather.  I think the nation needs a west coast groundhog to provide the local forecast.  I've spent time in my backyard this week, pruning palms and roses, pulling weeds, and planting raspberries and lilacs.  For those of you still buried in snow, I offer a hopeful glimpse of weather to come:
