Ten Things of Thankful: A Quick List, but I'm Still Thankful

 I'm tired today. I'm excited for this upcoming week, because I will spend it with my mom at RootsTech, a large genealogy conference, but right now I'm just tired. 

 I don't write well when I'm tired, but I don't want to miss participating in the Ten Things of Thankful blog hop. 

 So, here's a perfunctory list of things I am thankful for:

  1. a new, working thermostat
  2. the pile of yard waste is decreasing, and the pile of mulch is increasing
  3. spending an evening with my youngest daughter
  4. book club
  5. visiting with several friends at various times throughout the week
  6. recognizing and acting on promptings
  7. figuring out how to scan photos as TIFF files
  8. finding a fire pit for our fire pit area
  9. getting taxes done
  10. as always, John

    and a most-excellent TToT it is! Can identify with the grats regarding most of your list, especially ...the new thermostat! lol (tell me it was one of those 'Nest' thermostats.) We don't have one but I've been in a number of houses that do and it apparently does everything but pay for the oil*
    Mild enough here this weekend to spend a little time in the woods, surveying upcoming yard projects.

      We did get a Nest. I know we're not using it to its full "smart" capability, but it does keep the house warm. :-)
      (and natural gas is the fuel, btw)

    Down and dirty! That's the way to get a post written! I think our downstairs furnace has a thermostat issue, but as long as it still runs, we can hopefully make it past furnace season before we have to replace it! Enjoy your time with your mom!

We would finish the exercise and he would hit enter (or was it "run"?) and wait expectantly for the green type to appear on the screen. If we were lucky, the whole conversation would occur. Monday Mentions: Equate Crutches

Have you ever needed crutches? I hadn't, until a week ago.  I'm pretty sure I strained a muscle while running a half-marathon.  (That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? I'm not actually that cool; the last time I strained a muscle it was from carrying too many shopping bags at once.) In any case, I found myself in need of some crutches. I sent my husband to the store to get some. What a Wonderful World! (An #AtoZChallenge Post): Z is for Zion National Park

  Visitor Center sign in Zion National Park My husband recently re-retired, and we are front-loading travel. My #AtoZChallenge posts this year will explore our adventures--some pre-retirement, some post. Today's location: Zion National Park in Utah.  Zion is a bit of a shibboleth. People from outside of Utah (or those who are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) tend to pronounce Zion as "ZIE-on." Locals (or tourists who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) use more of a schwa sound, pronouncing Zion to rhyme with lion. However you choose to pronounce it, it is an amazing, beautiful national park and has some amazing hikes. The last time my husband and I visited Zion National Park, we entered from the east, and traveled through the mile-long Zion-Mt. Carmel tunnel. It is an engineering marvel, completed in the 1920s.
