Tall red poppies bloom against the brick remains of an old homestead A couple of weeks ago, John and I hiked in Alpine, Utah, to see the poppy gardens near the old Lambert homestead. We knew if we waited, we would miss the peak of the flowers. One minute, flowers are blooming, and the next minute, that particular floral show is over until next year. The Ten Things of Thankful blog hop runs every week, but sometimes I miss the boat and don't get a post composed. I find, though, that those weeks that I do join in, I'm more apt to look for (and find!) the good in life--regardless of whether it was a "good" week or a "bad" week. Just as taking time to hike pays off with a beautiful view, taking the time to share ten things I'm thankful for pays off with a feeling of peace, satisfaction, and gratitude. The past three weeks have been spent at home. It's been so nice to catch up on things here. The air conditioner cools the house again, we've taken ...
Love the pictures, rules or no rules.... Especially the last one! That's a place we really need the visit! Wow.
ReplyDeleteMostly I try to make a nice composition, but the rule of thirds is new to me.... Good tip though, and will try to remember.
That tree was in the Olympic National Park in Washington State, in the Hoh Rain Forest.
DeleteI love all your shots, I can see you have used your rule of thirds in your images, i especially like the sunset at the end of the road.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It was a really stunning sight, and I just had to get a photo.
DeleteYour pictures are always beautiful, Kristi.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sarah.
DeleteYes, I try to think about the grid when I snap photos, but usually, I will crop them afterwards so I don't obsess about it.
ReplyDeleteYou know, when I read your comment, I thought, "That's right--there is a setting on the camera that places a grid on the screen!" I don't know why I didn't make the connection sooner.
DeleteIf I have a lot of time to compose a shot, I try and use the rule. But cropping in post production is my best friend! I like your take on the theme and your shots are lovely!
ReplyDeleteAha! Cropping for the rule of thirds! I'm learning new things every day.
DeleteThat tree is amazing, nice photos for this month.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I knew I had to get a photo of that tree!
DeleteLike the Tired Teacher above I tend to think about it more when I am cropping something but I am often aware of it and try. I love the picture of the arched tree!
ReplyDeleteI think I'll be more aware of it now.
DeleteI love learning from the comments of others. I don't know if there is a grid on my old camera or not. I'll check on that. For now if necessary I crop.
ReplyDeleteI really like that last photo a lot.
Thanks. I really like that last photo, too. That tree was amazing!
DeleteThe beauty of our challenge is so you hopefully think differently or a little more in-depth about the "theme" and I think you did that wonderfully. You have a nice set of images for the month! Great work!
