Throwback Thursday a Day Late: Family Christmas Photo

I'm not sure if only seven years ago counts as "throwback," but I love this family photo.

This obviously was not taken in my backyard, but rather, in my sister's backyard in New England.  In 2007, my brother, sister, and I conspired to surprise my parents at Thanksgiving.  My sister invited my parents to fly to her place for Thanksgiving.  My brother and I and our families also booked plane tickets, but did not tell my parents.  I'll never forget the look on my mom's face when she saw me.  At first, she showed no recognition, then, she realized that she actually was seeing me, and she broke out laughing.  My brother, sister, and I spent the rest of the weekend giddy that we had managed to pull off such a spectacular surprise.

Oldest son agreed to wear his Buddy the Elf costume for the photo shoot.   I smile every time I see this photo.

I'm thankful for happy memories.

  3. You guys love to suprise your parents apperently. First New England, not so long ago in Yellowstone Park.... What's next?? I love it that you have such a close family, eventhough you don't live close to eachother. (with me it's the other way around... we live close but rarely see one another...) Love the Elf costume too. Memories like this last for a lifetime. xxx

  4. I don't blame you for loving this picture! Not only is everyone so joyful, but it is a reminder of a time you made your mom incredibly happy - and managed to surprise her too - which isn't an easy task to pull off on a mom!

Six Sentence Story: Twist

An antique typewriter Each week, Denise at Girlie on the Edge blog posts a prompt word and invites bloggers to come up with a Six Sentence Story. It's a fun challenge for writers, and a delight for readers. Go over to her blog to read what others have written, and feel free to post your own story, too! This week's prompt: twist. ********************************* The kids who moved in next door were big kids--much older than her 3-year-old self--but they might be fun to play with, and as they were coming towards her, the idea of them being new friends seemed at least possible. She was rather shy, but she understood the basics of making friends, so when those neighbors crowded all around her and asked her what her name was, she didn't hesitate to answer.  She thought she had spoken loudly enough, but apparently her shyness got the best of her, because they didn't seem to have heard her.  "Twisty?" they asked, and recognizing she needed to be even louder, she ...

Ten Things of Thankful: Lovely Autumn

I've mentioned before, but it bears repeating, that I love fall.  This week I noticed the following:

Ten Things of Thankful: Valentine's Day is in Spring Edition

Despite what the groundhog predicted, here in my neck of the woods we have been enjoying balmy weather.  I think the nation needs a west coast groundhog to provide the local forecast.  I've spent time in my backyard this week, pruning palms and roses, pulling weeds, and planting raspberries and lilacs.  For those of you still buried in snow, I offer a hopeful glimpse of weather to come:
