Ten Things of Thankful: Youngest Daughter Edition

My youngest daughter's birthday is coming up soon.  I gave her a choice:  either she would let me say all sorts of wonderful things about her on my TToT post, or she would write her TToT for me to post on my blog.  I'm a mean mom that way.

Not surprisingly for those of us who know her, she elected to write a post, rather than allow me to talk about her on my blog.

My daughter's Ten Things of Thankful:

1.  I'm thankful for mothers, who give birth to beautiful children of God.

2.  I'm thankful for the sky that it gives me light each and every day.

3.  I'm thankful for the rain as it kisses me to the touch, and warms me to the soul.

4.  I'm thankful for clay, when miracle fingers collide they transform it into something like a goddess.

5.  I'm thankful for time.  Time goes by whether you like it or not.  Spend that time doing something fantastic!

6.   I'm thankful for the sun.  It just feels like Jesus is giving you a great big hug.

7.  I'm thankful for music; without it I would die.

8.  I'm thankful for life.

9.  I'm thankful for fantasy; without it all would be lost.

10.  I'm thankful for reality.

Kristi here again:  I'm biting my tongue, wishing I could add background stories and relate proud moments.  I love my daughter and hope she has a wonderful birthday!

Ten Things of Thankful

 Your hosts

  1. Happy Birthday to your daughter! Having read that I can see why you are so very proud!

  2. Happy Birthday youngest daughter!! Sounds like you have a wonderful mom and a wonderful life and you know how to appreciate it too. Have a wonderful birthday.

  3. Happy birthday to your daughter!!!! Have a wonderful celebration !!!!!

  4. Those photos are GORGEOUS, and I think your daughter might be a poet, Kristi :D

    1. I wanted to add some photos of her, too, but she nixed that idea. (That second photo was taken in Hawaii, as we watched the sunrise on Haleakala in Maui. What a memorable event!)

My daughter's creative side never fails to awe me. From the time she was little, I knew that she would be introducing me to another way of looking at life. Poetry, art, and music come easily to her. I play music if I have written music to read; she plays if she has the music in her heart. What a talent!

  5. To add, I'm thankful for this list. WONDERFUL.

  6. Such an amazing list! I love her gratitude. And congrats to you on alias is nine such an eloquent and grateful little girl!

    1. She likes to remind me that she is not so young anymore. :-)

    1. She's enjoying all the birthday greetings--thanks!

  8. Holy moly this post made me all misty eyed. So sweet of her to be appreciative of many wonderful things. Happy Birthday to her.

  9. wow what a poetic addition to the TToT... does she hire out? I don't think the guards would object but we could make up a rule if necessary...oh here it is!!! Rule 76.98 subsection 4b says you can ask a particularly poetic relation of another hostini to write in your stead if said relation is truly of a scholarly nature and willing to do so for a nominal fee. ahem. NO really its says that!

  10. A wonderful post with gorgeous photos. Well done, youngest daughter!

    1. I'm reading her each comment, and she is loving them. Thanks!

  11. This is such a great list! I especially like the juxtaposition of the last two! I'm a huge fan of fantasy books, and it's nice to come back to real life! Well done.

    1. Thanks. All these comments are making her day!

  12. very cool.

    (Happy B-day)
love the photos... where is photo #2 from?

  13. Well, it's beautiful as is even without the background. Though I wouldn't mind hearing it some day. What a lovely girl!

    1. I try to be sensitive to my kids' feelings; and they each have varying levels of comfort when it comes to what I share on my blog. Youngest daughter doesn't really enjoy being in the limelight.

  14. What a well-adjusted (and well-raised!) young woman. What a gift to realize how precious time is before too much of it slips by.

    1. Time does go by quickly. It's amazing to think that all of my children are legally adults now!

  15. Happy birthday to your daughter....and her list is inspiring!!!!

    1. Thank you. I've been passing along the greetings, and she appreciates the comments.

  16. Happy birthday to your youngest, and congrats on biting your tongue. :). That isn't easy when it comes to our kids, is it?
I see a lot of you in your daughter.

  17. Oh how beautiful this list is to read!!! I absolutely love your daughter's perspective...what a gorgeous heart and faithful soul she seems to have... I would be a proud mama indeed!!

I had my daughter vlog hers... isn't that interesting? WOW!

    1. I enjoyed your daughter's vlog, and I did think it was interesting that we both had our daughters make lists this week.

  18. Wow. Ok I trust that you know what I'm thinking and feeling right now, and hope your daughter has a very very very happy birthday!!! Beautiful sentiments that all of us should live by.

  19. I know you must be so proud! This is a wonderful post, and your daughter sounds like an amazing young woman. Happy Birthday to her!

Ten Things of Thankful: Post-Thanksgiving Edition

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. I'll jump right in:

1. I'm thankful for cooperative return policies. Several weeks ago, I mentioned that I had to return a range that I had purchased, and I hoped that the particular range was just a lemon and that the replacement wouldn't have the same problem. Well, unfortunately, it did. On the bright side, the store quickly picked up the second range and refunded my money. I'm putting appliance purchases on the back burner (!) for the moment.

2. I'm thankful for temples. I went one morning this week to the temple. I'm always amazed at how much insight comes in just an hour or two of reflection.

3. I'm thankful for my sister. She and her family came to Utah to spend Thanksgiving with her in-laws, and I got a chance to see her and her family on Wednesday. The last time I saw her was in January at our grandma's 100th birthday celebration. We feel lucky to have two visits in one year!

4. I'm thankful for my brother. …

Never Give Up Hope

Twenty-three years ago, a beautiful little girl was born. From the get-go, she was sweet, sensitive, and rather shy. She has grown into a young woman of whom I am so proud. She has worked hard to overcome challenges, and recently told me she is trying to face her fears, and asked me if I would write her story and share it here on the blog, in hopes she can inspire others through their own struggles. Although I offered to publish an auto-biographical piece for her, she wanted me to write her story from my perspective. At her request, and with her approval of this post, I share the following:
The phone rang, and the social worker on the other end informed me that a baby girl had been born 10 weeks early and drug-exposed. She wasn't ready to be released from the medical facility where she was currently staying, but would we be interested in being her foster-to-adopt parents? Of course! When John and I filled out our paperwork, we indicated that we were comfortable with a premature bab…
