Ten Things of Thankful: General Conference Edition

Every six months, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds a general conference.  People all over the world can view the sessions (translated into many different languages) in meetinghouses, online at lds.org, or on television.   I spent hours last weekend watching conference, and by the end of the day on Sunday, my spiritual cup was overflowing.  This week's Ten Things of Thankful post highlights some of the words I heard last weekend.  I'm thankful for how each of these statements spoke to my soul:

  1. Yes, prayer should be integral to whatever we do. Thanks for reminding us of that!

  2. I especially enjoyed a couple of the quotes above... the one about 'doubt your doubts before your faith'... makes sense in a way that seems simple and yet not, the idea that faith is a thing in and of itself, not a reason or an argument (to believe a thing) but it is self-contained.
and the other one was the '...poverty of discontent' which I believe I have seen in many (very different) contexts, but still the same truth.

  3. Some very great thoughts presented here. I know it's a thing that most dislike, but I am not a fan of organized religion. I find too many men force their views, instead of the actual words presented Christ. When asked why I'm no longer Catholic, I stated, "I don't feel I need a middle man." I've had the same conversation with several other denominations. So, I'm either damned, or saved, depending how the man upstairs takes my comments. I hold him inside of my body, which is my temple. Good post to get people thinking! Great job!

  4. A lovely list of Thankful, and one I can really feel akin to, Kristi :)

When I study the scriptures each day, and commune with Jehovah God and Jesus Christ in prayer, I never forget to be thankful for the technology available that helps me in my worship.

Through this technology I am able to listen in as my brothers and sisters in spirit assemble together and, by joining in, even though I am in my home, and they are together in our local Kingdom Hall, I am able to avail myself of the spiritual food provided for us all.

I truly bless the day that the internet was invented, as it has freed people like myself - someone too ill to join in with my congregation in the flesh - to be able to listen to them, and follow along in our acts of worship :)

We are truly blessed to have all the information we need at the touch of a button, aren't we? :)

  8. I love the quote about how each day is a day of decision and that our decisions determine our destiny - so very true.

A lovely set of sentiments here - some great food for thought. Like the one about family too!

    Best - Louise

Six Sentence Story: Twist

An antique typewriter Each week, Denise at Girlie on the Edge blog posts a prompt word and invites bloggers to come up with a Six Sentence Story. It's a fun challenge for writers, and a delight for readers. Go over to her blog to read what others have written, and feel free to post your own story, too! This week's prompt: twist. ********************************* The kids who moved in next door were big kids--much older than her 3-year-old self--but they might be fun to play with, and as they were coming towards her, the idea of them being new friends seemed at least possible. She was rather shy, but she understood the basics of making friends, so when those neighbors crowded all around her and asked her what her name was, she didn't hesitate to answer.  She thought she had spoken loudly enough, but apparently her shyness got the best of her, because they didn't seem to have heard her.  "Twisty?" they asked, and recognizing she needed to be even louder, she ...

Ten Things of Thankful: Lovely Autumn

I've mentioned before, but it bears repeating, that I love fall.  This week I noticed the following:

Ten Things of Thankful: Valentine's Day is in Spring Edition

Despite what the groundhog predicted, here in my neck of the woods we have been enjoying balmy weather.  I think the nation needs a west coast groundhog to provide the local forecast.  I've spent time in my backyard this week, pruning palms and roses, pulling weeds, and planting raspberries and lilacs.  For those of you still buried in snow, I offer a hopeful glimpse of weather to come:
