Tuesday Time to Tackle: Extremely SLOW, Clicking Keyboard

Somehow, I seem to always end up having strange computer problems, the kind for which googling the answer is difficult.  For example, I learned the hard way that if you hold down the control key and press the minus sign, you can inadvertently make your screen so tiny that you cannot see the words.  Of course, when I did that, I didn't actually recognize how I had done it;  I just knew that my screen was suddenly illegible.  (To fix that problem, simply press the control key and the plus sign.)

Last night, as I was typing, I must have had the right shift key pressed down for 8 seconds (according to the solution), because the next thing I knew, my keyboard didn't respond.  I heard a click every time I pushed a key, but no letters appeared.  Oldest daughter figured out that I could type, but only by holding down each key for a long time and waiting for the letter to appear.  In what was probably the longest google search ever, I painstakingly typed, "my keyboard types slowly and clicks" and then found this solution. (Basically, you do not want filter keys enabled on your keyboard.)

I'm certainly glad to be able to type freely again!

What's the strangest computer problem you have encountered?

Thanks for solutions to problems, and for properly functioning keyboards!

  1. I always have to laugh so hard when I read this. My dear silly hubby always has problems like this too. He says he didn't do anything (No, of course honey, it happened on its own...) and for the next half hour I'm figuring out how to correct it again. His latest stunt; tilting the screen 90 degrees.... (solution CTRL+ALT+arrow) Oh boy....

  2. What a great story and now someone else that has this problem will find their way to your solution! My worst problem was coming home to find my cat sleeping on the keyboard and having opened at least 100 google help windows. I didn't think I would ever get it safely closed down.

  3. Hahaha!! At least you could get to google to figure it out. Otherwise, you'd still be sitting there typing this post. :) I sometimes hit the wrong keys, too, but it never does anything as bad as that. Usually it takes away my tool bar. (I think that's what it's called.) So far, crossing my fingers seems to be the solution. :)

  4. Just found your blog. AND I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one with wacky problems. My husband got me a lap top. I don't like to use the touch pad, which is curiously too sensitive and not sensitive enough at the same time so I got my computer guru daughter to teach me how to turn it off. But for some reason the goofball thing gets turned back on and then my errant thumb brushes the touch pad and cause all manner of crazy things to happen. Do you think computers will ever be voice or thought or inner prayer controlled? I wish it could read my mind! Thanks for the lift and laugh today.

Six Sentence Story: Twist

An antique typewriter Each week, Denise at Girlie on the Edge blog posts a prompt word and invites bloggers to come up with a Six Sentence Story. It's a fun challenge for writers, and a delight for readers. Go over to her blog to read what others have written, and feel free to post your own story, too! This week's prompt: twist. ********************************* The kids who moved in next door were big kids--much older than her 3-year-old self--but they might be fun to play with, and as they were coming towards her, the idea of them being new friends seemed at least possible. She was rather shy, but she understood the basics of making friends, so when those neighbors crowded all around her and asked her what her name was, she didn't hesitate to answer.  She thought she had spoken loudly enough, but apparently her shyness got the best of her, because they didn't seem to have heard her.  "Twisty?" they asked, and recognizing she needed to be even louder, she ...

Ten Things of Thankful: Lovely Autumn

I've mentioned before, but it bears repeating, that I love fall.  This week I noticed the following:

Ten Things of Thankful: Valentine's Day is in Spring Edition

Despite what the groundhog predicted, here in my neck of the woods we have been enjoying balmy weather.  I think the nation needs a west coast groundhog to provide the local forecast.  I've spent time in my backyard this week, pruning palms and roses, pulling weeds, and planting raspberries and lilacs.  For those of you still buried in snow, I offer a hopeful glimpse of weather to come:
