Monday Morning in the Kitchen: Beware the Exploding Cake Pan!

My birthday last week proved to be the most exciting birthday ever, at least as far as the cake was concerned.  Have you heard about exploding Pyrex dishes?  Has your oven ever looked like this?


That, my friends, is my birthday cake.  Youngest daughter had mixed up the batter, poured it into a regular 9 x 13 pan, and put it in the oven at the normal temperature.  It was nearly done when we heard the sound of shattering glass, went to investigate, and found the remains of the self-destructing Pyrex.

Birthday Cake
Go to your nearest grocery store and pick up a cake from the bakery department. 

 Thanks for oven doors, which keep messes somewhat contained and people protected from exploding pans.

    I've never heard of this happening! Wow! And I use my Pyrex 9x13's all the time! Now I'm afraid! And will probably ALWAYS use a baking sheet under it, just in case! The thought of chicken enchiladas all over the inside of my oven just makes me cringe! lol

      I use glass 9x13s all the time, too, and have been for years and years. So, I'm pretty sure that statistically this is a fairly uncommon occurance. I'm not rushing out to replace all my glass pans.

    Wow, that's scary! I am so glad it happened in the oven than when someone was carrying it.

    Wow, that is quite the photo. I've never had a 9x13 pan, but I have had a saucepan explode on the range. I was heating up some spaghetti sauce, when Kaboom! sauce and glass everywhere. I don't think this sort of thing happens very often, though. I'm not giving up my 9x13s.

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. Tuesday Time to Tackle: DIY Swamp Cooler Pump Replacement

Yesterday morning, despite having the swamp cooler on all night long, we woke up to 81 degree temperatures inside the house.  John went outside to inspect and announced that the swamp cooler pump had stopped working. Fortunately, replacing the pump is a quick and simple do-it-yourself project.
