Losses, Both Good and Bad

We always lock our doors-- both car doors and house doors.  Except when we forget.  Like last night.  (We locked the house doors, but forgot the van door.)  When John went out this morning to head to work, he opened the van door to find the glove box and all other storage areas opened and cleaned out.  Well, the thieves did leave us one quarter--ha!  They also didn't touch the bocce ball set in the back, nor the CD of hymns.  What they did take was a pair of dollar-store sunglasses, the owner's manuals to the van, and the registration.  The police officer who responded to our call scratched his head, and told us the thieves couldn't really do anything evil with our registration.  But still . . . I feel angry, inconvenienced, and a little less secure.

That was the bad loss.  On the bright side, Weight Watchers continues to work its magic, and I'm now down over 5 pounds since I started! 

Thankful me:  Thanks that things weren't worse.  Petty theft isn't that bad, in the grand picture.  No real harm done.  Also thanks for a beautiful day and blooming flowers in my yard!

    This happened right in your own driveway!?! Holy cow! What nerve, the little punks!

    We had our brand new car broken into on vacation in Quebec City last year, and all they did was take the cd's, my hubby's perscription sunglasses, and about $40 in cash. They never even opened the center console, which had my cell phone and fancy camera in it! I was just grateful they hadn't taken a knife to the seats or peed on everything! With those thoughts, I felt I came away pretty lucky! :o)

    Poor little punks, too, cuz when they really looked at the cd's, I'm sure they were saying, "Johnny Mathis? Doris Day? Don Williams? Who are these people?" Ha!

      Break-ins are never right, but breaking in while you are supposed to be relaxing on vacation is definitely wrong! So glad they overlooked the "good stuff."

      Had to laugh at your comment on your choice of tunes. Besides CDs of hymns, my car contains musical offerings like the Kingston Trio, Chad Mitchell Trio, and John McCutcheon--probably not the first choice for thieves.

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. Tuesday Time to Tackle: DIY Swamp Cooler Pump Replacement

Yesterday morning, despite having the swamp cooler on all night long, we woke up to 81 degree temperatures inside the house.  John went outside to inspect and announced that the swamp cooler pump had stopped working. Fortunately, replacing the pump is a quick and simple do-it-yourself project.
