Ten Things of Thankful: Live from Oregon Edition

On Tuesday, the texts and calls started flying between my Dad, brother, sister, and I. Mom had fallen and hurt her wrist. Spoiler alert: she will be OK, but did break her wrist. 

1. I'm thankful for the ability to stay in touch.

2. I'm thankful for a relatively calm phase of life at the moment, which makes it easy to help when needed.

3. I'm thankful for my siblings, who although their commitments are more involved than mine right now, are always willing to come when needed.

4. I'm thankful for working vehicles. Yes, vehicles. Plural. The car that had been in the shop since December has finally really been fixed. We still drove the newer car to Oregon, but we had options.

5. I'm thankful for uneventful travel. 

6. I'm thankful that our frequent vacations have made packing quick and easy, and we were able to throw together our bags without too much thought--and (as far as I know) we didn't forget anything important.

7. I'm thankful for my parents, who were happy to see us. My mom is a doctor's dream--the most compliant patient ever. She is definitely doing all she can to have a speedy recovery.

8. I'm thankful for our son and his girlfriend, who are always so cheerful and willing to hold down the fort (including feeding Drexel, our dog) while we're gone.

9. I'm thankful for our other children. 

10. I'm thankful for John. We've had fun reminiscing this week. Happy 38th anniversary to us!

      Our best to your mom for a speedy recovery. (Tell her the crew at the Wakefield Doctrine are enjoying her exemplifying the better qualities of her predominant worldview. We might add, not merely being compliant, but simply not one to complain, however justified given the situation.)

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. (The apricot only bears heavily every other year anyway, and I think this is an "off" year--though I could be wrong.) Strawberry plants in full bloom 3. Tuesday Time to Tackle: DIY Swamp Cooler Pump Replacement

Yesterday morning, despite having the swamp cooler on all night long, we woke up to 81 degree temperatures inside the house.  John went outside to inspect and announced that the swamp cooler pump had stopped working. Fortunately, replacing the pump is a quick and simple do-it-yourself project.
