Wednesday Works: A Before and After

We've been living in our house for over two months now, and I realized that I haven't shared many before/after pictures since we moved in, so I thought I'd give you a peek at the living room today.

 Before, the walls were a color that I don't know the name of, but imagine it is something like "gruel gray." Although the entry had wooden floors which extended into the kitchen, the living room was carpeted. Overhead lighting consisted of just two little recessed lights. On the plus side, the room had a window seat and another big window.

We painted (more accurately, we hired someone to paint) the living room a pretty blue (Skydiving), had the carpet removed and hardwood flooring installed, had new baseboards put in, and had a overhead light fixture added.

The finishing touches consist of furniture, plants, and, of course, Drexel.

It's been a long journey from purchase to move-in, and (as is always the case with home ownership) there are still more projects to do, but we are settling in and the house feels like home. 

 I'm thankful.

    Very nice! The hardwood floor and the change in paint color make the area more inviting.

      Thank you. It's funny, but once we put color on some of the walls and painted the trim white, the gray color suddenly became more attractive, too.

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. Tuesday Time to Tackle: DIY Swamp Cooler Pump Replacement

Yesterday morning, despite having the swamp cooler on all night long, we woke up to 81 degree temperatures inside the house.  John went outside to inspect and announced that the swamp cooler pump had stopped working. Fortunately, replacing the pump is a quick and simple do-it-yourself project.
