A Dose of Deedee on October 28, 2015

Are you ready for another dose of Deedee?  Last evening, she was a social butterfly!

First, she met 6 Mormon missionaries when they came for dinner. (Non dog-related tip:  serving breakfast for dinner is always a big hit with the missionaries.  They all seem to love waffles with strawberries, syrup, and whipped cream, scrambled eggs, and bacon, and as a bonus for me, it's easy to prepare!)

After dinner, Deedee attended her first guide dog training meeting, held at our leader's home.  Although Deedee is not old enough yet to go out in public, we put a vest on her for a photo shoot with Ecru, another puppy-in-training.  My photo didn't turn out very well, but I think it is interesting to see the difference in size between a puppy who is new, and one who is just a couple of months away from returning to the Guide Dog for the Blind campus.  Also, note how the straps of Deedee's vest are dragging on the ground.  She has some growing to do before it fits correctly!

When we got home, Deedee was all tuckered out.  She watched a bit of TV, then promptly passed out on the floor.

Even though that photo makes Deedee look like a grown dog, she is still a cute little puppy.

Deedee's insight of the day:

  • Kristi needs to communicate more clearly.  Yesterday, I got brownie points because I was quiet all night and Kristi got to sleep. This morning, even though I didn't wake up Kristi, she didn't give me brownie points.  She said something about she would rather get up in the middle of the night for a minute than have to clean out a crate and give me a bath first thing in the morning. She also said that she knew it was early in our relationship, and that she was sure I would figure out all the rules.  So, I guess it's OK to be noisy if I need to do my business.    Kristi hopes I remember that tonight!

  1. Such a kind heart she has, forgoing her own discomfort by sleeping in a dirty crate, so you could sleep. :-) I hope tomorrow morning starts out better.

    1. Oh, I'm glad you are enjoying it! It's given me a bit of inspiration for my blogging, which I have needed.
Sorry I didn't get my 6 sentences written for last week. I started, but it was Monday night and the link up was almost closed, and my sentences just weren't sounding right. I haven't come up with an idea for this week yet, but hope to.
I hope your weather cooperates soon so that you can have computer access from home again. Computer being down is buggy, and commenting from a phone is just about impossible.

  3. Raising a puppy is hard work and time-consuming. I think you have the routine down to a science.

  4. The puppy pictures of Deedee are cute but I love the photo of Drexel leaning on your shoes! Labs are such leaners!

  5. I lurrrve this pupper so!
When we had our foster pups and there were, um, digestive issues, and in the morning, the inside of the crate looked like it had been painted with, uh, poo. Both had to have an immediate bath, with special attention to the tails used as paintbrushes :)

    1. I can't believe I didn't hear her. Her crate is right next to my bed so that I can take her out as soon as she needs to go. Hopefully tonight will be better!

Ten Things of Thankful: Autumn Edition

It's autumn time, one of my favorite times of year.  I just couldn't leave this weekend as a one-post weekend.

Ten Things of Thankful: Last Two Weeks

Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park, as viewed from an overlook I apologize for not commenting on your blog posts this past week; John and I took a vacation to Yellowstone National Park, leaving behind our computers and, to a large extent, cell phone service. We escaped the outside world and just spent time in nature. Though we have friends near Yellowstone (who we love to visit) we made this trip just about us, so please forgive us if we were nearby and didn't stop by. The crowds were minimal (though we did mask up whenever we passed someone on the trails) and we spent our days hiking, taking photos, and watching geysers erupt. Today, we are back home and back to work, and, in the case of my computer, back to old shenanigans like not letting me import my photos. (I was able to add the above photo by using blogger on my phone, but that isn't my preferred method.) I want to write about Yellowstone and have photos I want to share, but will leave that for another

Monday Mentions: Equate Crutches

Have you ever needed crutches? I hadn't, until a week ago.  I'm pretty sure I strained a muscle while running a half-marathon.  (That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? I'm not actually that cool; the last time I strained a muscle it was from carrying too many shopping bags at once.) In any case, I found myself in need of some crutches. I sent my husband to the store to get some. Photo: A pair of crutches leans against a wall  Not that crutches are all that complex, but because I hadn't used any before, I wondered if I could figure out how to adjust them to fit me properly. I shouldn't have worried. John came home from Walmart with their generic store brand of crutches, complete with instructions. First, I needed to take out a long bolt that went through the hand grip. Then I needed to find my height range, push down two metal pieces, and slide the crutches until the little metal pieces came up in the hole near my height range. (Having two people for this
