I'll Run in Green Organza

At the end of last summer, my oldest daughter and I ran a 10 K race at Disneyland.  It was our first run together at Disneyland, and as we ran, we noticed many other runners wore costumes.  Their attire added to the festive nature of the race, and we talked about wearing costumes for our next Disneyland run.

Well, our next 10 K is on Saturday, and so (non-procrastinators that we are cough, cough) we talked a bit this week about what we should do about running apparel.  Luckily, a google search helped me find DIY ideas.  As we are running a Tinkerbell race, we decided to go with costumes in Tink's honor.

The local craft store had Tinkerbell-green T-shirts. ("Tinkerbell" modifying only the color; no image of Tinkerbell appears on the shirt.)  Next I looked for fabric that I could use to sew running skirts (to go over our running pants).  Always a bargain shopper, I glanced at the clearance section.  Bingo!  A beautiful, green organza with silvery swirls.  If that didn't scream out "Tinkerbell", I don't know what would.  I wasn't planning on an organza; I was thinking a stretchy, sparkly fabric would be more appropriate for the task, but I figured as long as we could run in organza, why not?   And at only $5 a yard (and I only needed 1 yard for two skirts), I couldn't pass it up.

I have sewn one skirt so far, and I think it will work.  I seem to be able to run in it.  I'll finish the other skirt this evening, then I need to decide how to make our wings. . .

Oops, guess I need to press down that seam.

If you'll be at Disneyland Saturday, we'll be the ones running in green organza!

Thanks for all the well-wishes and prayers that I get over this cold.  They seem to be working.  I'm not 100% yet, but should be able to run without a problem.

Six Sentence Story: Twist

An antique typewriter Each week, Denise at Girlie on the Edge blog posts a prompt word and invites bloggers to come up with a Six Sentence Story. It's a fun challenge for writers, and a delight for readers. Go over to her blog to read what others have written, and feel free to post your own story, too! This week's prompt: twist. ********************************* The kids who moved in next door were big kids--much older than her 3-year-old self--but they might be fun to play with, and as they were coming towards her, the idea of them being new friends seemed at least possible. She was rather shy, but she understood the basics of making friends, so when those neighbors crowded all around her and asked her what her name was, she didn't hesitate to answer.  She thought she had spoken loudly enough, but apparently her shyness got the best of her, because they didn't seem to have heard her.  "Twisty?" they asked, and recognizing she needed to be even louder, she ...

Ten Things of Thankful: Lovely Autumn

I've mentioned before, but it bears repeating, that I love fall.  This week I noticed the following:

Ten Things of Thankful: Valentine's Day is in Spring Edition

Despite what the groundhog predicted, here in my neck of the woods we have been enjoying balmy weather.  I think the nation needs a west coast groundhog to provide the local forecast.  I've spent time in my backyard this week, pruning palms and roses, pulling weeds, and planting raspberries and lilacs.  For those of you still buried in snow, I offer a hopeful glimpse of weather to come:
