Thankful Me

July's visiting teaching message talks about the importance of teaching and learning the gospel of Jesus Christ.  I used one of the scriptures mentioned in the message for the handout; this verse is a great reminder that the most powerful motivational tool we have is the gospel.

I love the festivities of the 4th of July.  As a girl, I would cautiously hold a sparkler and watch it twinkle, then settle in on a blanket on our front yard and wait for the professional display at the nearby park to begin.  I felt so lucky to have such a view from my own home.   "Wow!  I can't believe Mom is letting me hold a burning stick!"

Thank you for your patience as I made some changes to the blog.  I still need to add just added my updated blog button, which was given a color update by the very gracious KC from AmaraLand .   KC also created a cute little favicon for me; hopefully I was able to upload it to the blog correctly. (It worked!)

In short:  same blog, different look.  I spent way too much time yesterday pretending that I understand html code.  (I don't.) 

I'm working on some changes to the blog, but I'm running into a bit of difficulty.  I accidentally went live with some of my adjustments, but they aren't quite right.  My hope is to have everything finished by tomorrow.  In the meantime, please be patient with me.  Thanks for possibilities.

I love light summer desserts.  (I really could skip the two modifiers in that sentence, but since this post contains a recipe for a light summer dessert, I'll keep it as is.)  Berries, angel food cake, and whipped cream combine to make a delicious, patriotically-colored trifle.

If you've been following my blog for a while, you probably know that I am a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind.  Twice I have met the puppy truck to receive a squirmy bundle of fur.  Reno was the first puppy I raised for Guide Dogs for the Blind, and Drexel is my current puppy. Recently (and I'm using "recently" in the old person way--probably a year or so ago), I purchased a big heavy bird cage at a garage sale.  I knew it would be perfect for decorating somehow. Yesterday, I finally figured out what to do.

Some foods are so delicious, they don't need a complicated recipe.  Although I certainly approve of preserving the harvest, nothing beats the taste of freshly-picked fruits and veggies.  When our produce co-op box contained green beans, I knew exactly how I wanted to fix them.

I'm joining in on the second 10 Thankful Things blog hop, but because today is Father's Day, I've decided to write a Father's Day edition.

Recently, I've heard from several different people that their family history is "done," so they don't have any research to do.  As kindly as possible, I'd like to take issue with that mindset.  

  At my guide dog meeting on Tuesday, we talked about a video that Guide Dogs for the Blind posted on their facebook page earlier that day.

The bees buzz around, and fruits appear.

No one will accuse me of being speedy, but I can be called determined.  Yesterday, I ran farther than I ever have before, so naturally I thought, "Oooh, time for another blog post about exercise!" source

I remember eating good, healthy meals as a kid.  Junk food didn't come into our home much, so I always loved it when Mom fixed this Fritos Casserole.

A few days ago, I learned about a great blog hop--Ten Things of Thankful--from my friend over at A Fly on our (Chicken Coop) Wall .  I knew I just had to participate.  I mean, how could I be Thankful Me and not join in?
