Thursday Thoughts: I Gained a Lovely Daughter

The message I heard over and over at the reception on Tuesday was how fortunate my son is.  His wife's family is amazing; they embody kindness and graciousness.  I'm happy to have our families connected through the marriage of our children. 


The night before the wedding, we all had a casual dinner with her family.  In a brilliant stroke of inspiration, we each wore a name tag with our name, as well as how we were related to the bride or groom.  That was a tremendous help to me.  It was so nice to visit with everyone.  I even learned that the bride's grandma knows my grandma, as they both worked in the temple together for many years. 

The past few days have gone perfectly.  What a happy occasion!  I hope the open house in our backyard will go as smoothly.

Thanks for occasions that bring families together.

    Coming from big Catholic families those name tags sure do come in handy when introducing new family members. Imagine my Chinese DIL confusion about names and relationships. She has it down now after 9 years, in fact she is the go to gal as far as family lineage goes.

    What a big happy family! Don't you just love it when you meet people you will be joint with turn out to be great people too!!! How fun.
    During our wedding both our grandmothers came to talk to eachother for the first time and it turned out they were cousins three times removed (don't know exactly how it's called in proper english, sorry) How great is that! Nice to hear you had a great time. And now all hands on for the next occasion next saturday.... Is this whole family coming to you now??? I'm sure it will turn out great. Try to relax a bit this weekend so you don't exhaust yourself?!

Ten Things of Thankful: April Showers Edition

  A red peony bud prepares to open fully  After an incredibly dry winter, we had a bit of precipitation this past week, in the form of falling snow. We didn't have much, and it didn't really stick, but we'll take water however it wants to come. Fortunately, my peonies seem unaffected by the cold snap, and are ready to put on a show here soon. 1. I'm thankful for moisture. 2. I'm thankful the flowers are still going to bloom. I don't know how the colder temperatures will affect the fruit crops. The strawberries look like they are still planning to set fruit. We'll have to see what happens with the peach, apricot, pear, and apple. (The apricot only bears heavily every other year anyway, and I think this is an "off" year--though I could be wrong.) Strawberry plants in full bloom 3. Monday Mentions: Equate Crutches

Have you ever needed crutches? I hadn't, until a week ago.  I'm pretty sure I strained a muscle while running a half-marathon.  (That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? I'm not actually that cool; the last time I strained a muscle it was from carrying too many shopping bags at once.) In any case, I found myself in need of some crutches. I sent my husband to the store to get some. I shouldn't have worried. John came home from Walmart with their generic store brand of crutches, complete with instructions. First, I needed to take out a long bolt that went through the hand grip.
