My brother taught himself to play the organ, but he played it like a cello (his chords were made with his first four fingers, no thumbs). Oh, and our church organ isn't NEARLY as magnificent as the one the Mormon Tabernacle Choir uses, but it's still pretty cool looking. I'll have to take a picture of it some time.Dyanne @ I Want Backsieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04946323852124525597noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6085311167627297994.post-24542460369361108312013-09-30T19:52:25.647-06:002013-09-30T19:52:25.647-06:00I love autumn. And wow! What a great find! When my son was tiny, we only bought the newest, softest, most organic stuff...now? a 79cent shirt makes SO much more sense. If you are, I'm a pianist on the organ. I haven't had any formal organ instruction, and I do not play the foot pedals. I rely heavily on the presets. I accompany the choir on the piano, but I am one of several people who play the organ for the congregation on Sundays. Do you play? I'm impressed that your church has an organ like the one the Mormon Tabernacle Choir uses! Typically, Americans celebrate with a big (huge!) meal, shared with extended family and/or friends who don't have family nearby. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes/gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, rolls, fruit salad, jello salad, olives/carrots/pickles, pumpkin pie, and apple pie are all are served (and I probably forgot something). Sometimes men and boys will go play football in the morning (the "Turkey Bowl"). If I'm lucky, I catch a minute or two of the Macy's Parade on TV after the turkey is in the oven. The meal is served mid-day, after a blessing of heartfelt thanks. Usually our house is packed, so there is a "kids' table" and a "grown-up table," even though the kids' table is occupied mainly by young adults now. After the meal, it's time for games--football games on TV and board games around the tables. That's how we celebrate Thanksgiving. Other families probably have their own variations.

If you spend time with family and friends, eat a feast, and have an "attitude of gratitude", you'll join in the celebration. You're always welcome to come to my house and join us!
