Yes to the dessert as a meal! Growing up we would always have strawberry shortcakes for dinner on Fridays, during strawberry season of course. This was when I lived in Michigan and my Mom still does it! you are not crazy! If we could get decent strawberries down here I would certainly be tempted.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11765055414561998856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6085311167627297994.post-41685775753877707272014-06-23T10:37:36.385-06:002014-06-23T10:37:36.385-06:00You could substitute flour for the steel-cut oats;...You could substitute flour for the steel-cut oats; I used the steel-cut oats as a thickener.Kristihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14136276061114462192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6085311167627297994.post-79639685220160942562014-06-23T09:50:57.981-06:002014-06-23T09:50:57.981-06:00Dessert for dinner? Sometimes on a summer night when it's just too darn hot to eat even a salad, we've been known to indulge in ice cream for dinner. it's such a neat feeling.

I also love sour cream and I would eat it off the spoon (OK, I do when nobody's looking) all by itself. This recipe looks great and would certainly be a good way to use up berries that are slightly past their prime. Think regular oats would do just as well as the steel-cut? I know cooking time varies but I don't usually keep steel cut on hand.
